72 Waterfalls of Lauterbrunnen Valley

Lauterbrunnen Valley has 72 waterfalls, the two most impressive in the area are Trümmelbach Falls and Staubbach Falls. The hike back to Lauterbrunnen from Trümmelbach Falls takes 40-60 minutes, and passes by Staubbach Falls.

Stechelberg, which is only 7 minutes away by bus, has an Aerial cable way that can bring you up to Gimmelwald, Mürren or all the way to the Schilthorn (Piz Gloria - James Bond mountain).

Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland is one of the most iconic and picturesque places in all of Switzerland - and that is saying a lot considering how majestic this entire country is. Additionally, it is home to one of the most powerful and deadly waterfalls that we have ever witnessed - Trümmelbach Falls!

These falls are a series of ten glacier-fed waterfalls that exist within the mountain. You can see the falls from the inside via a cave that the falls have carved out all by itself, combined with a number of stairwells that were built in 1913 and maintained ever since.

Trümmelbach is a natural UNESCO World heritage site as it is formed by and carries glacier melt-water from the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains and therefore forms Europe's largest subterranean water falls. Combined, they form a powerful raging torrent that carries 20,000 liters of water per second through the caves. It’s seriously amazing to see and frightening to consider falling into!

Finding Your Way to the Falls

Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen is approximately 17 km (10.6 miles). Lauterbrunnen Train station to Trümmelbach Falls is approximately 4,7 km (2.9 miles).

Tips & Tricks
Allow at least an hour to see it all. Two hours is plenty.
The caves are damp and cool, even in summer. Bring a jacket that can get wet!
Wear good slip-resistant shoes.
Quite Dangerous for toddlers and small children. Attach them to you!
Busloads of tourist arrive between 9 and 10am. Plan accordingly to avoid crowds.
Free parking, but easily accessed by bus from Lauterbrunnen (about 10 Minutes) and/or Stechelberg (7 minutes).
Not wheelchair accessible.
Open daily from April through November, 9am to 5pm; July and August from 8.30am to 6pm;
Admission: Adults CHF 11; Children CHF 4. Special prices for groups. No credit cards accepted.
